Registry office wedding
If you wish to be married in a registry office you will require either
a registrars licence or certificate. Notice must be given to the
registrar in your local area. A registrars certificate requires
the parties to reside in the local district of the registrar for seven
days before serving notice. After that, they may marry after 21 days from
the day of entry of notice by the registrar.
The registrars licence requires one of the parties to live in the
local registrars district for at least 15 days before giving notice.
If the other party also lives in the same area, at least 7 days notice
must be given. If you live in different districts, 15 days notice must
be given in each district. Seven days after the day of entry of notice
by the registrar, the marriage may take place. Both licences and certificates
are valid for 3 months from the day notice is served. The ceremony in
a registrars office is quite short and couples must bring two adult
witnesses. Guests are welcome but you should check before the ceremony
how many guests could be catered for inside the registry office.
